How did you get started with bodybuilding?

I was introduced to a rusty barbell by my father when I was 6 years old. He built an old school basement gym in Russia, mostly for gangsters. I still remember its smell and the noise of those old Olympic weights that became music to me, (that’s why I don’t use headphones when I train).

There were posters on the walls of Lee Haney, Tom Platz, Franco Columbu and of course Arnold. They were so great and so far away, like Gods! I never quit the gym ever since.

What keeps you motivated?

I have a vision of my perfect physique; it is unique and aesthetic as I am so I am constantly working to achieve it. The pump, keeps me coming back to the gym and enjoy the most brutal workouts. Of course competition drives me nuts, I can’t afford anyone to out work me at what I love the most.

What is your current workout routine?

As I progressed at the sport, I realized the importance of understanding your body and truly connecting to it. I switch my routines all the time as well as intensity, volume and weight.
My current split:

  • Day 1: Legs, abs
  • Day 2: Back, biceps, abs, cardio
  • Day 3: Shoulders, triceps, abs
  • Day 4: Legs, abs
  • Day 5: Chest, abs, cardio
  • Day 6: Arms, abs

If you had to choose only 3 exercises, what would they be and why?

Well if I do just these 3 exercises I will be in tip top shape; it’s basics to build an impressive physique.

  1. Bench press, develops your upper body – chest, shoulders, triceps.
  2. Weighted pull ups develop width of your back and thickness depending on the grip and positioning.
  3. Squats – legs are the foundation for your body, without impressive quads you will never unlock your full potential.

Competition history:

I started competing may 2013, it was local NPC men’s physique show in Rockford. I placed 4th in my class. A month later I placed 2nd in Chicago Nationals. Then 4 weeks later in July I placed first in Team Universe in New Jersey and turned IFBB Pro. Following August I placed 6th in my pro debut in Tampa Pro. I took 8 months off, moved to LA and was prepping for New York Pro where I placed 15th. I brought a whole new package and was 25lbs heavier. Denver Mile High Pro, June 2014, 14th place was my best package, 192 lbs dry, lean and full. That was my last IFBB show. I switched over to WBFF as was poorly judged because of my size – “too big” for physique.

So in July 2014, I placed 3rd in WBFF Sacramento as muscle model. My last show was in August I placed top 10 in WBFF Worlds in Vegas. Currently not training for a specific show rather working towards my dream physique. Recently won top spot in “20 we miring physiques” on bodybuilding.com

What is your favourite form of cardio?

I love high intensity sprints and MMA sparings. Burns fat and conditions muscles the best. Plus I love to fight! 😉

What is your diet like?

My diet is always changing depending on what I’m trying to accomplish: lean out or put on quality size. Regardless of purpose it’s always clean and free of processed food, sugars etc. I believe in healthy, clean eating as a way of life, not dieting.

My nutrition is always on point, no days off or cheats, I have absolutely zero cravings for sweets or fats, as my meal plan is very efficient and balanced with macronutrients. I love my steak, rice and veggies!

What supplements do you use?

I don’t use any protein powders, ever. My stack right now is really basic but very effective and budget friendly: Multivitamin complex, fish oil, creatine monohydrate, unflavored BCAA powder, unflavored glutamine powder, joint support supplements. Very simple.

What is your favourite quote?

A bit too long but describes what I feel about myself and challenges in life.

“You’ve got to love yourself so much… that your willing to take all the world’s shit, like an iron shield that feels nothing, knows no one and fears nobody… be willing to go through all the pain no one else can stand to feel. You have to shut your mind off to the clutter… and at the end of the day… after all the hatred, disrespect, and ignorance stand within yourself, be proud, and run through anything that stands in your way…”
