How did you get started with bodybuilding?
After starting a career as a personal trainer in a big-box gym, it was apparent to the members and other staff that I trained rather intensely. Eventually after being asked continuously if I was a competitor, I thought I should give the physique division a try as I am somewhat “built” for it.
What keeps you motivated?
Right now I am invested in my service to my country as a Marine Corps Officer. I don’t think I need to say anything else.
What is your current workout routine?
I get yelled at for never taking any real “off” days. My training is daily and consists of Olympic lifting, running, bodybuilding, powerlifting, strongman circuits and combat conditioning.
If you had to choose only 3 exercises, what would they be and why?
- Front squats: fantastic quad and athleticism builder.
- Deadlifts: arguably the best exercise for any fitness goal.
- Incline dumbbell press: targets the upper chest efficiently.
As I get older, I look for exercises that will save my joints and help with my longevity in this sport.
Competition history:
- 2013 NPC Mid-Illinois: 3rd tall class.
- 2013 NPC IL State: Class B physique and overall winner.
- 2013 NPC JR NATIONALS: 16th.
- 2013 NPC Continental: 2nd physique class B.
- 2014 NPC Iowa open: 3rd physique class B.
- 2014 NPC JR USA: 8th physique class C.
- 2014 NPC JR NATIONALS: 10th physique class C.
- 2016 NPC Pride of the Midwest: 1st class B.
What is your favourite form of cardio?
Sprints outdoors preferably on a hill. Or the stairs.
What is your diet like?
Healthy dose of carb cycling and MREs.
What supplements do you use?
The basics. Supplements can never replace hard work.
