How did you get started with bodybuilding?

I was a regular gym-goer, however was inspired by a younger personal trainer earlier this year (2015) who was prepping for a competition. He directed me to a Competition Prep Coach and I began taking the gym and nutrition a lot more seriously under his guidance.

How do you stay so motivated? What drives you?

I went through a divorce, and I was at a point in life where I wanted to become the best me I could be – work on MY stuff so I went on a journey of personal development and fitness modelling/competing I saw being a brilliant way to develop self discipline, commitment, accountability and a positive attitude to the tough moments in life. Instead of being down, I threw myself into something that made me feel strong, happy and more confident.

What drove me the most, was knowing that in order for me to have happy, healthy, stable children, I needed to become that first as a mother. Nothing provides that more than honoring yourself with something health focused each day.

What is your training routine like?

I love anything active so try to say yes to any opportunity my 3 kids or friends give me. However, a usual week would consist of:

  • Fasted cardio (exercise bike at home high speed, medium resistance) for 30 minutes 5 days/week.
  • Weight training 3-4 times/week – Back & Biceps, Shoulders & Triceps, Legs/Butt (sometimes twice/week), core exercises + stretching at the end of each session.
  • 100 Push Ups, 5 days/week – broken up into 5 lots of 20 push ups over the day.
  • Premier League Soccer Training 2 x 2 hour sessions/week + 1 x 90 minute game on weekend. If Soccer season is off, I replace the sessions with 3 x HIIT classes at f45.
  • 1 x Yoga Class.

If you had to choose only 3 exercises, what would they be and why?

Squats, Squats, Squats! Because incorporating heavily weighted squats has meant a lot less injuries for me with Soccer due to much stronger glutes, and they shape my thick thighs and juicy booty faster than any other leg exercise!
Push ups – They work your core, arms, shoulders, back, legs and chest! Great all rounder!
Pull ups – You can feel and see how your strength is improving, not to mention they are amazing for your core, back, arms, lats and shoulders!

What is your favourite form of cardio?

I used to dislike ALL exercise bikes with a passion after nearly dying in an intense spin class as a gym newbie in my teens. I avoided the bike for about 14 years until I had it as my only real option for fasted cardio this year (I couldn’t leave my sleeping children of an early morning, and a cheap exercise bike was more affordable than a treadmill or stepper machine).

I learned to love it the most, as I went at my own pace and levels… I could put Spotify ‘Running’ on at a 190 bpm tempo and pedal to the beat, going on a musical journey, thinking of my goals and dreams – before I know it, 30 minutes is up and I’m completely drenched in sweat!

What is your diet like?

When prepping for a competition:

  • Breakfast: Oats, berries, sugar free strawberry topping & protein powder
  • Morning Tea Post workout: Shake
  • Lunch: Tuna/White fish, broccoli & beans
  • Afternoon Snack: 2 x Rice cakes with sugar free (stevia) berry jam & fat free greek yoghurt
  • Dinner: 4-6 egg whites + 1 yolk, spinach and mushrooms
  • Dessert: Sugar free jelly & fat free greek yoghurt with protein powder

What supplements do you use?

I take 360 Health 100% Natural Acetyl L-Carnitine & an Isagenix E Shot (caffeine hit) first thing in the morning & before workouts, 360 Health 100% Natural BCAA’s during workouts & either 360 Health’s Chocolate WPI or Isagenix Vanilla Isa Pro Protein after training. I always take spirulina, fish oil & a multi vitamin and try to eat organic whole foods where possible.

What are the highlights of your fitness career?

2015 Muscle Mania Australia

  • 3rd Place – Ms Bikini, Tall
  • 3rd Place – Ms Bikini Novice, Open
  • 1st Place – Ms Model Classic

2015 Fitness Universe, Las Vegas

  • 19th Place – both Ms Bikini Universe (Medium), & Ms Model Universe (Open)

Having only prepped for my first competition for 16 weeks, and another 8 weeks before my second competition in Las Vegas, I am happy with that result.

I am excited about what I could do in 2016 with a season focused on conditioning and working on balancing my muscle proportions – I now know what to expect and have big plans on how to come back even stronger. 🙂
