How did you get started with bodybuilding?

Started training with Les Mills Classes, fell in love with Body Pump, then that got too easy and ventured out into the gym. Got addicted to constantly lifting heavier and it made me feel, the endorphins and the shape improvement of my physique.

How do you stay so motivated? What drives you?

I stay motivated by setting short-term, achievable goals that keep me accountable. Though I don’t rely on motivation to keep going, I rely on my discipline. Being disciplined makes me happy and appreciate the things hard to come by. Seeing and feeling the results achieved by goal setting + discipline is enough to drive me for the rest of my life, in all aspects of life!

What is your training routine like?

Brutal but fun! Lots of EMOM strength training accompanied by volume sets. I love lifting heavy (1-5 reps), but keeping it high intensity with supersets, wave loads and drop sets. Most common used training split given to me by my coach Hattie Boydle is:

1) Quads & Pull
2) Glutes & Core
3) Hamstrings & Push

Perfect balance for smashing the focus muscle, but still being able to train legs daily. (Glutes!)

If you had to choose only 3 exercises, what would they be and why?

  1. Hip Thrust (band at knees) – best way to smash glutes without extensive hamstring / quad use as you would with a squat. Band at knees really smashes Glute Med – lazy muscle for many females.
  2. Conventional Deadlift – strengthens the whole body, amazing for your whole posterior chain, strength, power and growth for the glutes, can lift twice my bodyweight. 😀
  3. Chin Up (bodyweight) – great for strengthening the back, anything bodyweight is awesome and functional, we should do more posterior work than anterior since we move forward all day every day, back usually weak and chest usually tight on most bodies. (Posture)

What is your favourite form of cardio?

None? I don’t mind HIIT circuits with WEIGHTS, or incline treadmill sprints 20 seconds on / 40 seconds off – short and sweet.

What is your diet like?

Rice, rice and rice milk, and rice cereal, and more rice.

  • Breaky is turkey mince, peas, walnuts, basmati rice & honey.
  • Post-Workout is Thai green curry chicken, rice, greens.
  • Snack is gluten free crunch bar / fruit.
  • Dinner is slow cooked beef with sweet potato & greens.
  • Pre-Bed is IIFYM – gluten free toast with peanut butter, avocado & marmite, rice milk with gluten free maple crunch cereal, and fruit if I’ve still got carbs! (Currently eating 370 grams a day)

What supplements do you use?

Multivitamin, fish oil, BCAA’s, dairy free protein (collagen / plant based) protein powder, magnesium powder.

What are the highlights of your fitness career?

Growing Ambitious Bodies into a successful business with amazing clients and a fantastic work / play balance. Competing in WBFF GC Bikini competition in May 2017 and having my first couple photoshoots. Putting two middle-aged women in a bikini for the first time in their ENTIRE life. Absolutely loving my job and my life, and healing me of my depression! It has been the best journey I could ask for.
