Cyberflexing.com Exclusive Interview With Superstar IFBB Fitness Athlete Christina Koasidou

How did you get started with bodybuilding/fitness?

The first time I actually stepped into a gym was in Greece on the 20th of May 2011. I can remember the exact day because I was in the final school year and had my last exams going on. I even can remember the feeling getting in for the first time – my body was shaking out of excitement. The decision to start working out came after 3 years of being bullied (called fat etc.) But I can’t say that this is where my fitness started because after that I had to battle 2 years with eating disorders so it was not a way of a healthy lifestyle.

My fitness journey began just 1 year ago where I had the chance to work for Mario Klintworth’s company Food 4 Champs at the FIBO POWER in Cologne, Germany!

Back then I was still battling with some eating disorders and I was hating my body. I worked there all 4 days – and to be honest they were the best 4 days in my life even if I was sleeping only 4 hours each day. I was fascinated by this new world, I wanted to be a part of it but I definitely didn’t looked like I belong there. Mario Klintworth was also the one who gave me the idea to start competing, I am now sure he said it just for fun but I am really grateful that he “pushed” me into this wonderful world.

It was back then when I decided to compete in Bikini Fitness and although it seemed impossible to be stage ready within 1 year, it was my goal and my state of mind was: Success and nothing less.

How do you stay so motivated? What drives you?

My motivation at the beginning was the desire to finally start doing something that I won’t quit within 1 month, to prove the world but mostly myself that I am capable of doing whatever I set on my mind and also be successfully. After that there were a lot of doubters on the internet who would never lose a chance to try put me down by telling me that I won’t make it, I have no chance, my shape was too bad for being Bikini Fitness stage ready in 1 year and things like that. This helped me in really tough times not to quit, I would not handle it proving them right, that I am one of those who say they want to compete but with the first struggle quits must also admit that I cried a lot and that I was not always motivated but I always managed to pick up my pieces and start again.

Now I don’t need something to motivate me because it has become a part of who I am. I truly believe it was my destiny to start doing this. To start competing was the best decision I ever took in my life. It’s the reason why I am not battling any eating disorders anymore and only for that I think that all the struggles where worth it. Also it made me a better person, changed my personality and I got mentally stronger! No one can bully me now.

What drives me is the desire to become one of the best. I don’t do this just in order to learn my body better, for the experience or whatever others are saying! I want to be a winner and it doesn’t matter how long it will take me to get there. It’s a life lasting journey with ups and down but who said that life is easy anyways? You just need to find something that’s worth all the struggle.

If you have something in your life that you want really badly, as bad as the need to breathe you will always find a reason to pick up yourself take a deep breath and keep on going.

What is your training routine like?

I don’t have a training routine. It’s always according to my next goal.

But I could say that my “main” training routine is 5 times a week weight lifting each muscle group once and I don’t have workout days like for example Monday=chest day. If for example I feel like my back is kind of weak, I do a back workout.

It also depends on my mood, my energy level and what I want to train on the day of the workout.

If you had to choose only 3 exercises, what would they be and why?

This is a really tough question because I love all the exercises that will help me to achieve my next goals. Because achieving my goals makes me happy so the exercises that help me make me happy too! I believe that no exercise is the best exercise and that the body sometimes responds better to a specific exercise and at some other times to a different exercise.

But I do love lunges for sure, they make your legs and butt burn like hell also the leg extensions on the machine because it’s the best exercise for the leg definition.

I just love leg workouts so I would rather say that I would pick doing only leg workouts instead of 3 exercises!

What is your favourite form of cardio?

When I actually do cardio, anything that’s short in time but also really intensive. I mostly do 30-45 minutes on the stepper machine on the maximum level with some short breaks, about 2-5 minutes on a lower level in order to drink water.

What is your diet like?

Again according to my goals. I always eat according to the plan I have at the time, clean but sometimes I allow myself to have some cheats or cheat days but not during competition preparations and always according to my shape at the time. If I feel bloated or that I have gained weight, there are no cheat days for me.

Because achieving my goals taste better than anything else on this world.

What supplements do you use?

I don’t always use the same supplements. During my competition diet for example I did not use whey protein. Now I do. So I could say the ones I actually always use are:

  1. Aminos
  2. Multivitamins
  3. Zink
  4. Fat burner (but cycled – I use a fat burner in the off season just because I don’t want to get too fat)
  5. Pre-workout

What are the highlights of your fitness career?

My whole first competition season (IFBB).

1 year ago I would not dare to dream about such a successful competition season and that I would compete in Body Fitness instead of Bikini Fitness. It was a big dream that became true! In my first competition I placed 4th out of 16 and it was clear that everyone else worked out more than 1 year, I would say at least 3.

In my second competition which was actually more important, it was the NRW Local Championship and the 1st and 2nd placed athlete would get the qualification for the German Nationals. I’ve placed 2nd and on top of that I had the same points with the 1st placed one! Again it was like a dream come true.

Last but not least – my latest competition. The German National Championship, I expected nothing not even a place at the finals but on stage I acted like I “own” this game and I had so much fun. So the highlight of my career is definitely the 2nd place at the German National Championship. I could not believe it – I was so full of emotions I couldn’t even cry.

As I placed 2nd I’ve got qualified for the EM Qualification (next year) and also still have the opportunity to start as a junior as I am only 22 years old.
