If you’ve not yet started working out, then you probably have a whole bunch of ideas of what to expect when you do. Most people think they know what’s going to happen when they start on their fitness journey, but most people are wrong. Here’s an idea. Working out: expectation Vs. reality…

Expectation – You’ll get up early to work out every morning
Reality – You’ll end up snoozing a lot of the time

Getting up in the morning to workout takes a hell of a lot of commitment. While you might do it some of the time, chances are, you’ll snooze occasionally. That’s fine! It doesn’t matter too much when you work out as long as you get it done. Do it at a time that works best for you. Ideally, in the afternoon so you sleep better at night. Too close to bedtime and you can disrupt your sleeping pattern.

Expectation – You’ll wear matching workout clothes and look like you belong in a magazine
Reality – You’ll wear whatever doesn’t stink of BO

Instagram is full of fitness models wearing matching workout gear. We’d all like to be able to do this every day, but some days you just have no choice but to wear the only clean clothes you have. This won’t always be matching, and it won’t always look great. As long as you’re comfortable and you don’t stink, that’s what matters!

Working Out: Expectation Vs. Reality

Expectation – Everybody will look at you working out
Reality – Nobody cares about what you’re doing

Many people avoid starting the gym as they feel like people are going to watch them do their workouts. Like they are going to stare and judge. The truth is, nobody cares about what you’re doing as they are concentrating on themselves. If they aren’t, they obviously serious about their goals and it won’t be long before they give up. If somebody does look at you, it doesn’t mean they are thinking negatively. Just focus on you and do your best. Making sure you’re doing a proper workout will give you more confidence. Expectation – Your workout playlist will be worthy of a movie montage and motivate you to work harder
Reality – You’ll skip songs every set

Some workout songs can get tired fast, no matter how much you liked them at the start. In fact, you’ll need to update your playlist regularly if you want to avoid skipping songs every single set. Songs can make you work harder, but it’s easy to get bored of them.

Expectation – You’ll get results in a few weeks
Reality – You’re still waiting for abs months later

Sure, you can make small changes in a few weeks. However, don’t expect to be where you want to be! Making real, long lasting changes to your physique takes a lot of time and consistency. You might never get full, blocky abs either, depending on your body type. Just make sure you’re in it for the long haul, and aim to be the best version of yourself rather than somebody else.

Don’t let these points put you off working out. It’ll be one of the best things you ever do!
