5 Exercises That Will Help You Attain Killer Abs

Everyone wants to have good-looking abs. But it’s not just the good looks that should attract you towards great abs, a strong mid-section will also provide your body and organs appropriate support. So, if you spend a bit of time nurturing and training your abs, you’ll look stunning and have a healthier body as a result.

But how do you attain killer abs? Here are five simple exercises you should start doing at the gym or at your home gym. These exercises are simple and they won’t require you to spend a fortune on equipment.

Exercise #1: The Bicycle Crunch

The move is easy to do because it’s almost exactly what the name suggests. In order to do this exercise, you’ll be mimicking a bicycle ride. You can do this by using just your body as the resistance weight or opt to use leg or ankle weights for additional resistance.

Lie on the floor and place your palms behind your head. Don’t lock the fingers because you don’t want to start pushing your head forward during the exercise. Raise your shoulder blades, as you would be when performing a crunch. Elevate your knees to bend them and have your calf muscle parallel to the floor. Start pedalling like you would on a bicycle. On each round, touch your knee with the opposite elbow.

Remember to hold composure and breathe normally. You could do two to three sets of 20.

Exercise #2: Flutter Kicks

To toughen things up, flutter kicks is a great exercise that focuses on stamina and abs. You want to do this exercise until you are physically fully exhausted to continue.

Lie on the floor with your legs straight up. Place your hands on the outer sides of your gluts to give your lower back support. Lift your legs off the ground, making them around 8 inches off the floor. Raise one leg to around 18 inches by slightly lowering the other leg. Alternate between the legs for at least two sets of 10 repetitions for each leg.

Exercise #3: Ab Wheels

Ab wheels is a great core muscle training exercise. It is one of the best ways to boost your chances of attracting the traditional washboard abs. The exercise will be rather tough and you definitely will know if you need to strengthen your lower back after trying this.

Use an exercise mat and go on your knees on it. You will also need an exercise wheel, which you need to hold in front of you. Keep your elbows slightly extended. Now, allow the wheel to roll out in front of you and take your body as far as possible. Just use your abs, not any other muscles, and draw the wheel back. Rinse and repeat.

Exercise #4: Vertical Leg Raise

In order to attain killer abs, you need to exercise all your core muscles in the abdomen. Vertical leg raise is great for giving the lower – and often hard to reach – abdominal muscles a good run for their money.

This workout is best done at a captain’s chair. Support your body by placing your elbows on the horizontal pads. Leave your back flush to the back pads and grip the handholds. Your ankles can dangle freely. Raise the knees to toward your chest. Pause for a bit and lower your legs by maintaining posture to almost the starting position. Repeat and don’t allow the feet to rest in the middle of the reps.

You want to do this for two sets of 15 repetitions, while maintaining your posture and breathing.

Exercise #5: Clothespins

Finally, you can add a lot of core strength to your abs with the move called clothespins. This is not an easy routine and you’ll probably require a bit of exercise before you start nailing this down to a tee. However, it is a great way to add flexibility and core strength.

Lie down on the floor and straighten your legs. Sit up in a semi-seated position, contracting your abs. Lift your legs to a 45-degree angle and reach out to your shins. Maintain the posture and slowly return to your starting position.

Do the exercise for two sets of 12 repetitions.

Extra tips for killer abs

Now, the above exercises don’t require a huge gym. You can make most of them also at home with the help of just a few limited items. You can find home gym instructions online and shop for the most basic items, such as dumbbells, weights and strength training cords, online. Argos promo codes are currently a great way to save money with home gym equipment.

In addition to the right exercises, nutrition also plays a key role in attaining killer abs. You want to consider using a muscle-building supplement either pre- or post-workout. Furthermore, eat enough protein and fat to give your body energy and the right building blocks for a lean and muscular body.

So, get training right now, and enjoy your healthier and better looking body as a result!
